How to get drag link off pitman arm

I do not understand why you can't get the drag link off of the pitman arm. They can be a PITA but with lots of hammering they usually come off. As for the pitman arm itself put a wet wrag around the box, then heat up the pitman arm then let it cool. Keep doing that and it will eventually come off. Frame off refresh of a 1974 Corvette.
